Application Process

Our application process varies slightly based on your children's age levels. Please click below for the specific admission process for each grade.

ECE (K1 - K3)

ISDenver welcomes applications to Early Childhood Education (ECE) from students with any language background. All children must be potty trained by the first day of school.

AGE CUTOFF DATES:

For 2017-18:

  • Children born in 2014 are eligible to enter K1
  • Children born in 2013 are eligible to enter K2
  • Children born in 2012 are eligible to enter K3

For 2018-19:

  • Children born October 2014 - September 2015 are eligible to enter K1
  • Children born October 2013 - September 2014 are eligible to enter K2
  • Children born October 2012 - September 2013 are eligible to enter K3

TEACHER RECOMMENDATION AND SCHOOL RECORDS / ASSESSMENTS

While completing your application, you will be asked if your child has attended preschool or daycare. If so, you will be asked to provide the name and email address of your child’s current/previous teacher. That teacher will receive an online recommendation form to provide us with information about your child, their personality and their development.

Please include all academic, social, learning and behavioral assessments when completing your application.

ATTEND AN EVALUATION

K1-K3 students are evaluated by invitation of our Early Childhood Education Director. Children will visit ISD in a small group setting with other applicants or in a current ISD classroom setting. Teacher recommendations from a child's previous pre-school or daycare may be used in lieu of an evaluation.

RECEIVE AN ADMISSIONS DECISION

The Admissions Committee reviews all applications and makes admissions decisions based on an appropriate match between a prospective student/family and the mission and philosophy of ISDenver. The Admissions Committee is comprised of the Head of School, Director of Learning, Division Coordinator, Program Coordinators, Student Support, and Director of Admissions. ISDenver admits students without regard to race, color, national and ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.

After your application has been reviewed, you will receive an enrollment decision. If enrollment is not immediately available due to space constraints, your child will be placed on a waiting list.

ENROLL

Once accepted, you will receive an enrollment contract. Your child's enrollment is secured by the submission of a signed contract and deposit by the published deadline. You will also be required to submit applicable medical forms and emergency contacts for your child at the time of enrollment.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

ISDenver allocates 5% of its annual operating budget to financial assistance for qualifying families whose children attend ISD full time. The application process for financial assistance is separate from the admission process. The deadline to submit a financial assistance application to be considered in the first round is February 10.

INTERNATIONAL AND LONG DISTANCE APPLICANTS

We welcome applicants from around the world and there is no better place to acclimate to Denver than ISD. Our admissions process is essentially the same for international and long-distance applicants; however, evaluation procedures are tailored to accommodate family travel constraints. Please contact us to make arrangements.

Lower School (Grades 1-5)

Students applying to grades 1-5 must demonstrate grade-level proficiency in the immersion language (French, Mandarin or Spanish).

Our Target Language and English Program Coordinators will conduct language evaluations as appropriate based on the teacher recommendations and other records received. Most prospective 1st-5th grade students will be invited to attend a 45 minute language evaluation to assess target language and English comprehension, reading, and writing as well as identify any language support needs.

Middle Years Programme (Grades 6-8)

ISDenver welcomes applications to our Middle Years Programme (MYP) from all prospective students with any language background.

For the 2016-17 school year, ISD offers the following novice languages:

  • G6 - Novice French & Novice Spanish
  • G7 - Novice Spanish
  • G8 - Novice Mandarin & Novice Spanish
Novice language programs for the 2017-18 school year will be offered based on incoming student interest. Advanced French, Spanish, and Mandarin are always offered throughout the MYP.

Those teachers will receive an online recommendation form to provide us with information about your child and the content covered in their classes.

ISEE ENTRANCE EXAM

ISD requires that applicants to grades 6 through 8 take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). To register for the exam at either a testing center or at local school test site, follow this link.

STUDENT SHADOWING

After submitting an application for admission, ISD will contact you to schedule a full-day shadow session for your incoming MYP child. We schedule full-day shadows (8:15-3:00) throughout the fall and early winter. During the shadow day, your child can expect to be paired with an MYP mentor and will attend a short meeting with our Upper School Division Coordinator and our IB MYP Coordinator. For advanced language applicants, we will also schedule a brief foreign language assessment. If your family does not currently live in Denver, please contact us to make alternate arrangements for this shadow day.
