Empowering Early Learners with Voice and Choice: K3 Students Enjoy Dragon’s Den Experience in Innovative Pilot Program
In an exciting initiative at ISDenver, our K3 classes are now getting a taste of the Dragon's Den (our faculty and student cafe) through a lunch pilot program. Spearheaded in collaboration with the Early Childhood Education team, administration and SAGE Dining Services, this initiative aims to provide K3 students with a lunch experience similar to that of their primary-school-aged peers.
The Kimak Building hallway now comes to life as a deli-style cafe during the lunch hour, offering a variety of meal options for young learners. To ensure smooth organization, each K3 class has been assigned a schedule to take turns going through the line, where they can exercise their independence by choosing from the variety of available options.
One noteworthy aspect of this initiative is the active involvement of Chef Alexis of SAGE Dining and the K3 students themselves. To establish a sense of ownership and responsibility, students attended an assembly where they actively participated in creating their own set of essential agreements, covering everything from how to navigate the lunch line to making thoughtful food choices.
The pilot is off to a great start! The palpable excitement among the K3 students reflects not only the novelty of the program but also the positive impact it has on their sense of autonomy and community involvement.
We are thrilled with the initial success of the pilot program and are optimistic about its continued positive influence on the overall school environment. As the school continues to explore creative ways to put student agency into action while also unifying the entire K1 - G8 ISDenver journey, this initiative stands out as a shining example of empowering young learners for a lifetime of success.
