Important Information on COVID-19

At the International School of Denver, each child's safety is our utmost priority. We are vigilantly monitoring and following expert guidance specific to COVID-19 to keep children safe.

Katie Kroeger

The safety of your child is our utmost priority. Please know we are taking expert guidance and every precaution to keep our students safe from COVID-19.

  • Per the recommendations of the National Association of Independent Schools and our state school association, ACIS, we have a direct line of communication with the Colorado Department of Health to advise us on these matters in line with the CDC.
  • With all decisions concerning COVID-19, we will be re-evaluating the situation on a weekly basis, and following WHO and CDC guidelines, as well as Colorado Department of Health guidelines as suggested by our national and state associations.
  • We recommend everyone continue to stay informed on the situation, using the following resources:

Our Head of School, Bob Carignan, shared the following with our parent community and I wanted to share it with you:

I am at the annual National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) Conference and last night they held a special session to discuss the COVID-19 virus and it’s possible impact on schools in the United States; it is an important time to be part of an strong national association. The NAIS has a team of dedicated experts who are monitoring the situation and updating members through a dedicated website page, they will also continue to communicate with schools directly and through their regional associations (ours is ACIS). The International Baccalaureate Organization, with schools all over the world, is also interacting directly with its member schools.

The main takeaways last night were that schools need to stay current and follow the protocols being issued by state and local experts; and that schools begin looking at options should they have to close. They also reiterated (as did the CDC) that the biggest current heath threat to schools is the flu.

We will continue our hand washing procedures with our students (and ask that you encourage this as well), and ask students and teachers to stay home when sick. Because of the technology integration that already occurs in our school, we have basic structures in place should we ever need to go “virtual.” We will be expanding these discussions with our tech team and faculty.

While I certainly hope that the remainder of the school year continues uninterrupted, please know that we are monitoring the situation closely with the guidance of professionals and we will keep you informed.

Thank you,

Bob Carignan

Head of School
