In addition to many annual, school-wide and community events, ISDenver is proud to host several unique events that celebrate our multicultural community.
- INTERNATIONAL BASH
- NIGHT OF THE TALES
- LANGUAGE PROGRAM FESTIVALS
- WORLD TEA FAIR
- ANNUAL FUNDRAISING GALA
Our International Bash is a festive end-of-year carnival-style event that attracts more than 2,500 guests! Imagine an outdoor celebration with games, activities, face painting, cultural villages, international-themed food trucks, live cultural performances and plenty of fun for the whole family. The Bash is one of the largest international festivals in the Denver metro area. Everyone is welcome to join our end-of-year celebration of our globally-minded community.
Join the ISDenver community for an evening of dramatic and theatrical storytelling. Our annual Night of the Tales is inspired by a Spanish tradition that celebrates the beginning of each school year. ISDenver students dress as their favorite literary character and join their parents and teachers on picnic blankets with root beer and lager (respectively!) from the Biergarten as we gather for this relaxed and casual fall event.
Night of the Tales is taking place on the ISDenver campus on Friday, September 14, 5:30 - 7:30 PM. Thank you for your feedback in last year's Night of the Tales survey to keep the event on campus. We heard you!
This is a dress-as-your favorite character event for all of your costume-loving children! Halloween, Super Hero, and Ballet recital finest all work, too! If your child isn't into it, that's just fine -- fun will still be had by all!
Use #ISDNightoftheTales and #YouBelongHere when you post your photos to Instagram and Facebook!
Sadly, Night of the Tales will be cancelled in the event of bad weather. Keep your fingers crossed for a perfect Colorado night!
Please see the provided map. In addition to street parking, the North lot near Kimak will be open; the Welcome Center lot will be in use by CFU for a performance that night, so will not be available to ISDenver. The lot immediately south of campus (National Conference of State Legislators) and Wings Over the Rockies parking are entirely open to us Friday night.
Enter (and exit) through the Upper School gates. For safety and security, all other gates (and buildings) will be locked during the event.
As we continue our focus on supporting our teachers (by not asking for a ton of extra-curricular work -- this year they'll be in the audience instead of performing!), we are still embracing story telling as an important part of our community. While this year is more enchantment than drama, next year just might tilt back toward theater. While this evolution is a work in progress, the most important focus is a night to build community -- many of the tales are the memories we're all creating!
Performances will begin at ~5:45 and 7:15 PM, filled with humor for all ages, in front of the library. In between, a roving magician will amaze guests young and old, and will even stop to teach a trick or two if you ask!
Many families elect to enjoy dinner during the event, and bring any of the following (basically, no restrictions!):
- Picnic supper for the family, or a pot luck to share.
- Blanket or lawn chairs (please set up full-height chairs toward the back).
- Your Nalgene or Swell bottle (already filled).
- Sweater or jacket in case it cools down as the sun sets.
- Adult beverages are absolutely allowed!
This is the first year that we're hosting a community Biergarten, with root beer for all ages and beer for the adults! And if suds aren't your thing, please pack your favorite Rose with your picnic. Of course, if you imbibe, plan a safe ride ahead of time. And, a gentle reminder, you are attending an event at your child's school, so keep it clean and be prepared to pack out what you pack in.
But can't you just recycle instead of packing out? YES! As long as we have parents volunteer to staff the recycling stations, we would love to start 'greening' up this event. As with a visit to any park, please Leave No Trace
Sit anywhere you'd like! New this year, there will only be one 'stage' located in front of the library and a roving magician. Sit with your neighbors, your classmates, your faculty / coaches / club leaders, your club-mates, or make new ISDenver friends! You asked for more opportunities to mingle across the community -- here's a great one!
All school buildings will be locked during the event. Four Portapotties and two handwashing stations will be available. The 'older child' playgrounds in front of the library and by the north end of campus will be open; the enclosed ECE playground and the sports field will be closed to protect the new sod.
Your child's safety is of paramount importance to us. We are doubling down on safety at this year's event by not only keeping the event on campus, but by also restricting access into campus and having two uniformed Denver Police Department officers. Please do your part, too, and keep an eye on your kids during the event.
Please discuss in advance that if they cannot find you, and vice versa, you are to meet at the glow necklace table under the tent (also the beer garden). Our staff and volunteers will be trained on this, too.
Each year, our target language programs - French, Spanish and Mandarin - each host a separate all-day festival and/or performance. These events are a great chance for students of all ages to immerse themselves in special performances honoring their program's culture and traditions - from the colorful dragon parade at our annual Chinese New Year festival, to a French performance of Robin Hood and a Spanish themed Cirque Mundial. These festivals are open to our community, and all students across all programs attend as part of their global and intercultural learning experience at ISDenver.
For 16 years, this annual cultural event features traditional teas and treats from over a dozen different countries! Come explore the world through tea with ISDenver. This distinctive international event is open to the public and fun for the whole family. You can sample teas, coffees, hot chocolate and authentic treats while learning the serving rituals from countries such as Belarus, China, England, France, India, Lebanon, Japan, Morocco, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan and Thailand.
The annual Gala celebration is ISDenver’s most popular/anticipated event of the year. It represents our largest single day fundraising event of the school year. With a new, fun theme each year, our parents, supporters, families, faculty and staff enjoy a night of fun, fine dining, dancing, live and silent auctions plus the contagious paddle raiser that concludes the evening with a frenzy of bidding. Past galas have funded a new STEAM-focused facility on campus, a new compressed natural gas school bus, expanded academic facilities, updated technology and program enhancements.
The International Bash is fun, exciting and inspiring. It provides a chance to celebrate everything that we love about the school, and share that excitement with other families and the community at large. Attending the Bash really drives home the value of the education and the truly outstanding sense of community that makes the school unique. -ISDenver Parent
