2021-22 Logistics and Learning Plan
Welcome Back to ISDenver!
While the constantly evolving information can seem overwhelming, we have found that our success lies at the intersection of focusing on our students and following guidance from the CDC and CDPHE. We have returned to on-campus instruction with robust health and safety protocols in place to protect the well-being of all our community members, especially those most at risk.
We are guided by 5 main goals:
- Minimize exposure to the COVID-19 virus
- Minimize cohort transitions in and through spaces
- Minimize teacher contact within a cohort
- Facilitate contact tracing
- Limit disruptions to learning
Our school is realistic that until there is a vaccine for this virus available for all, COVID-19 will not go away. We are prepared should there be periods throughout the year in which we may need to go virtual for safety reasons. The look of the school today may very well change in the coming months and we will keep you informed of those changes through the World E-News.
Campus at a Glance
Health & Safety
Health and safety are our top priorities. The school began implementing enhanced cleaning protocols in March of 2020 and has practiced them through two summer camp seasons and the 2020-2021 school year. We will continue them throughout the 2021-2022 school year as well.
Our on-campus protocol is continuously aligned with guidance from:
- Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
- Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment guidelines
- American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
- Where this guidance is inconsistent, we rely on our Medical Advisory Committee to recommend best practices for On Campus Protocols within our academic community.
On Campus Protocols include (more detailed information can be found in the policies section, below):
- All students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors will wear masks indoors regardless of vaccination status.
- Masks required outdoors for unvaccinated students when social distancing cannot be maintained.
- Masks required outdoors for all unvaccinated faculty and staff working with students.
- Masks optional outdoors for fully-vaccinated students, faculty, and staff who have a vaccine card on file with the school and can maintain 3’ social distance.
- All visitors, parents, and volunteers are required to wear masks on campus at all times.
- Students will be encouraged to wash hands or use hand sanitizer before transitioning from their classroom to another space.
- Students will primarily interact with their grade-level cohorts.
- Minimum 3’ social distancing is encouraged as much as possible.
- Robust cleaning practices followed throughout the day.
Essential Agreements
- We value the health of all ISDenver members; we will consistently wear our mask properly, practice proper hand hygiene and maintain a safe distance from each other.
- We value our influence on the student body; we will serve as role models at all times.
- We value our work; we commit to attend & participate in virtual meetings and trainings to support our teaching and learning.
- We value our community; we will show compassion and understanding when someone needs to heal at home.
- We value our community; we will consider how “outside of school” activities can impact the health and wellbeing of our school.
- We look forward to your family embracing the following essential agreements and adopting them into your daily practice.
Essential agreements are common tools in the IB that produce not stated “rules” but rather the values that we collectively agree we must live by.
They do not read as “I will wear my mask,” but rather, focus on what we value, and how we will achieve our goals by living out that value.
Knowing that our health and safety goals are to minimize virus exposure, minimize cohort transitions, minimize the number of teachers in contact with a given cohort (and vice versa), and facilitate contact tracing, we assessed which among our values most resonated with the goals.
Learning Formats
As we did last year, the International School of Denver will offer on-campus, in-person learning for as many days and to as many students as possible.
- Virtual learning will be available to cohorts on an as-needed basis only.
- Livestream learning for individual students will only be provided for individual students, dependent upon grade level, if their anticipated quarantine is more than three days.
- Should virtual learning be required on a more widespread basis, we will update our policies and notify the community as necessary.
Please visit the Virtual and Livestream Learning tab for full details.

Please do not contact these experts directly - they are volunteering their time and are acting as individuals, not on behalf of their institutions. Please direct all questions to info@isdenver.org.
Campus Logistics
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Update 1/31/22: As we begin to open up the ISDenver campus, we are intent on creating drop-off and pick-up procedures that will be sustainable for the rest of this year and beyond, including both carline and walk-up options, as well as on-campus pick-up.
Drop-off Map and Procedures: 8:15 - 8:30 a.m.
Families with any students in K1-K2 or with a K3 student who needs assistance getting out of cars must drop-off all children via
- The carline headed north on Red Cross Way with drop-off in the Mary Louise Evans parking lot on the corner of Red Cross Way and 4th (see the orange carline and drop-off zone on the Drop-off map), or
- The walk up to the gate between the Mary Louise Evans and Peacekeeper buildings (see the orange dot on the Drop-off map).
All other families must drop-off all children
- By car via the Hug & Go line in the Welcome Center parking lot (see the purple drop off zone on the Drop-off map). This is an independent carline and children must be able to exit from the passenger side of the car on their own and move to either the South Gate or the Welcome Center gate, whichever is closer.
- On foot via the Welcome Center and South walk up gates (see the purple dots on the Drop-off map).
Drop-off Note: We do not currently use The SchoolPass app and / or RFID tag during our drop-off.
Pick-Up Map and Procedures: 3:30 - 3:45 p.m.
K1-G5 families may choose pickup via car or walk up
- Pick-up by car
- Enter the carline headed north on Red Cross Way with pickup in the Mary Louise Evans parking lot on the corner of Red Cross Way and 4th (see the orange carline and pick-up zone on the Pick-up map).
- Parents with students in K1-G5 must show their SchoolPass RFID tag, distributed to each family’s oldest ISDenver student last week, to be entered by ISDenver staff in the carline, or
- Enter the carline headed north on Red Cross Way with pickup in the Mary Louise Evans parking lot on the corner of Red Cross Way and 4th (see the orange carline and pick-up zone on the Pick-up map).
- Walk on campus
- Enter campus via the designated gates at the north and south end of campus (see the purple dots on the Pick-up map). To facilitate our carline, parents cannot enter at the gate between MLE and the gymnasium.
-
If you are an afternoon walk-up family with a K1-K3 child, please stop at the north, south, or Welcome Center gate to have your RFID tag scanned in. This will speed up your pick-up process once you approach your child's class.
-
All other families must show SchoolPass credentials to your child’s teacher directly so the teacher can check your child out.
- K1-K3 students can be picked up in their classrooms via exterior doors of the Kimak building
- G1-G5 students can generally be picked up in the courtyard near their building where they will be waiting with their teacher and the rest of the class.
- Enter campus via the designated gates at the north and south end of campus (see the purple dots on the Pick-up map). To facilitate our carline, parents cannot enter at the gate between MLE and the gymnasium.
In the event of inclement weather, pick-up may be in the classroom. We will notify you of building and classroom locations should an in-class pick-up be necessary.
G6-G8 students may pick up younger G1-G5 siblings; however all K1-K3 siblings must be picked up by a parent or authorized pickup person.
Late Drop-Off/ Early Pick-Up Instructions

COVID- 19 Policies 2021-22
As part of the ISDenver community, each one of us has agreed that we value responsibility and integrity. We expect everyone in our community to practice responsibility and integrity both in and out of school by following the public health guidance issued by the CDC and CDPHE to keep our community safe. We ask all families to keep children home when they are sick, engage in testing when family members have concerns or potential exposure, and quarantine after travel or other potential exposure.
In the 2019-20 and 2020-21 school years, ISDenver relied on the guidance of public health officials to keep kids engaged in on-campus learning as much as possible and to help keep our community safe. We will continue to rely on research-based advice from experts who have dedicated their lives to public health and ISDenver will continue to follow the guidance issued by these public health officials in the 2021-22 school year. Our 2021-22 Campus Logistics and Learning Plan reflects this guidance and will be updated as guidance evolves throughout the year.

- Limited visitors to campus.
- Parents not presently allowed on campus outside of required carline activity.
- All visitors required to be masked at all times regardless of vaccination status.
- No large gatherings that bring together adults and children through October 31, 2021. (Future gatherings will be revisited in October.)
Air and Ventilation
We have increased all building air intakes to 100% outdoor air for heating and cooling, and require that windows be opened as much as possible, including in the Dragon’s Den (our communal dining space/commercial kitchen).
- Our tents will remain in place until further notice.
- We encourage teachers to open all operable windows.
- The Colorado Free University (CFU) building, which will be used by some of our students during the day, utilizes swamp coolers and radiant heat. Swamp coolers, by definition, use 100% fresh air intake.
- Additionally, CFU windows will be open to continually move air through each room we use.
Testing: COVID Check Colorado
We strongly encourage all students to get tested regularly for COVID through COVID Check Colorado (CCC). COVID (PCR) testing is currently free through CCC. The testing is easy to schedule, fast, painless, and results typically come back within 24 to 36 hours.
- Utilize our school-specific COVID Check Colorado site when registering for any COVID tests.
- Through this partnership with CCC, student and faculty/staff test results are accessible to our school leadership, and testing information is treated as confidential.
- This link will shut down on May 31, 2022 and we will no longer receive notifications and testing information.
- We also strongly encourage anyone who qualifies to get vaccinated to do so.
Weekly On-Campus COVID Testing Program
ISDenver is part of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s free, voluntary, and statewide COVID-19 school testing program for the 2021-22 school year. It is available to all students and staff, regardless of vaccination status or presence of symptoms.
- If your child is registered for testing, please remind them that we will be pulling them out of class for testing weekly on Wednesdays.
- You can register and consent here for testing at any time, as well as opt out in your account if you no longer wish to be in the weekly program.
- At the bottom of the first page of registration, you will be asked for an organization code; please use C4575.

- You must opt in by Friday the week before in order for testing to begin the following week.
- If your child is not registered with a consent on file, they will not be able to be tested.
If you have a child enrolled in our weekly COVID testing program:
- Tests run between 11am - 1pm, and results are typically released to parents in ~1 hour via text / e-mail.
- If your child has tested positive for COVID recently, they will not be tested in the upcoming weeks after returning to campus.
Illness Policies
Illness Policy
If your child is feeling ill (cough, fever, gastrointestinal distress, etc), keep them home until symptoms resolve. Do not medicate your child with fever reducing medication (ibuprofen or acetaminophen) before coming to school. If your child becomes ill during the school day they will be brought to the nursing office brought to the nursing office for evaluation.
Absence Policy and Reporting
It is vitally important we know who is absent due to illness vs. non-illness reasons, as it allows us to closely monitor potential illness spreading, and follow CDPHE guidelines to keep our community as safe as possible. If your student will be absent for any reason - sickness or a personal / non-illness related reasons, notify us using the parent portal.
How to Report an Absence
- Watch this video to see how to report an absence.

Caring for Our Community
Social-Emotional Learning and Support
As we welcome our ISDenver community back to campus, we will continue to emphasize our students’ social and emotional needs.
Each year starts off with an emphasis on what our school routine will look like, discovering more about who we are as learners, and emphasizing what our place is in the ISDenver community. This allows plenty of time for questions, for learning, and for gaining a feeling of comfort in our new classes.
For our Middle School learners, we plan to emphasize our successful advisory to allow students time to get adjusted both academically and socially to the new school year.
- Our SEL curriculum inside the classrooms is flexible and can be adjusted as needed to best support our learners.
- Our school counselors will be available for individual meetings, pushing into the classrooms, and beginning our lunch groups and affinity groups as soon as possible.
We are always here to support our families (not just learners). Please reach out to our school counselors with any questions you have about your child’s social or emotional well being as we come back to start our school year.
Protecting Our Teachers
Our faculty are the lifeblood of ISDenver and are a big part of what makes our community so special. To that end, we support them in a variety of ways as they are on campus, including:
Masking & Vaccines:
- Our masking policies not only reflect best practices, but also support the desire of our teachers to help keep the campus safe.
- Our school partners with local health providers to offer both COVID- and flu-shot clinics.
Cleaning:
- We continue to implement the extensive campus-wide cleaning procedures that were developed for pandemic operations to keep our campus safe.
- Teachers and cleaning staff have sanitizer bottles available for cleaning at any time for tables, desks, etc.
Sick Time:
- Like everyone in our community, we want our faculty members to stay home when they are not feeling well. To that end, the school added 6 sick days to our policy for the school year.
- Teachers are also protected by COVID-19-specific Federal and State laws.
Cohorting goals and Philosophies
Students are grouped into grade-level cohorts, with the goal of protecting teachers and students alike by:
- Minimizing the movement of students in and though shared spaces
- Minimizing the mixing of cohorts
- Reducing the number of teachers interacting with any given group of students
- Reducing the number of students interacting with each teacher on any given day
- Realigning divisions so that cohorts remain in assigned division buildings
- Facilitate contact tracing for if / when we have a probable illness
In all of this, we recognize that risk is the new norm, and we are doing our best to mitigate risk whenever possible. To best protect our students and faculty, and to facilitate contact tracing if and when needed, we encourage families to only carpool and/or do study / play dates within their cohort.
