Meet Logan, ISDenver Class of 2017
Logan, a proud alumnus of the Class of 2017, reflects on an extraordinary journey that began in K1 at ISDenver. Now on the cusp of earning a Bachelor of Finance and Minor in Chinese Language from San Diego State University, Logan’s story showcases the transformative power of language and global education.
A Foundation in Language and Culture
Logan’s educational journey took root at ISDenver, where he was immersed in a Chinese language environment. This foundation would prove invaluable as he progressed to Denver East High School. There, he pursued advanced Chinese studies, building his skills to achieve the highest levels of proficiency. Despite being unable to take concurrent enrollment courses at CU Denver due to his commitment to sports—football, baseball, and swimming—Logan’s dedication to mastering the language never wavered.
In high school, Logan earned the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy by passing the AAPPL language test. This achievement cemented his skills and opened doors for further opportunities
From Classroom to the World
After graduating high school, Logan moved to California to attend San Diego State University. Although he initially revisited lower-level Chinese courses in college, he quickly excelled and declared a minor in Chinese Language. Being one of the few non-Asian students in these classes, Logan found camaraderie in a small, close-knit group that remained together from freshman year through to their graduation this spring. His language skills provided an edge beyond academics. “ISDenver is the main reason why I land job interviews,” Logan shares. “Mastery of the language has allowed me to connect with people on a deeper level.” Recently, he traveled to Japan alone and found comfort in his ability to read and understand Chinese characters. This skill not only enhanced his travel experience but also opened opportunities to connect with Chinese speakers.
The Competitive Edge in Finance
As Logan prepares to graduate this spring with a Bachelor of Finance, he envisions a career that allows him to work internationally or travel for business. In a competitive field like finance, his bilingual abilities set him apart. “The finance field is so competitive, but I have an edge because of my language skills,” Logan says. “My mom always told me that language opens doors, and now I’m really seeing it.”
A Message to Future Generations
Logan’s experiences at ISDenver did more than teach him a language—they shaped his worldview. “Going to ISDenver made me so much more open-minded,” he reflects. “The travel I did as a student made me a much more confident person now.” He encourages current students to stick with language learning, emphasizing the long-term benefits: “People are amazed by me still—the look of relief on their faces when I can communicate with them.”
Wherever his journey takes him next, Logan credits his ISDenver experience for providing the skills, confidence, and perspective to thrive in an interconnected world.
