A Bold Beginning: ISDenver’s Founding High School Class Sets the Stage for Global Excellence

A Bold Beginning: ISDenver’s Founding High School Class Sets the Stage for Global Excellence

After nearly five decades of educational distinction, the International School of Denver (ISDenver) has taken a transformative leap forward with the launch of its brand-new high school. This fall, the inaugural 9th-grade class of 2025-2026 stepped into a learning environment unlike any other. One rooted in global citizenship, language development, and the gold standard of education, the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.

A vision born from opportunity

Katie Williams, ISDenver’s High School Director, describes the launch of the new high school as a natural evolution of the school’s mission.

“We saw a unique opportunity to offer the IB Diploma in multiple languages, something few schools can provide,” she explains. “Our vision is to build a collaborative, student-centered community where every learner is empowered to thrive and become the best version of themselves.”

That vision is already taking shape. Students are not just participants. They’re co-creators. From designing their own lounge to founding clubs and contributing to the library’s development, the founding class is actively shaping the culture and identity of ISDenver High School.

The IB experience, reimagined

ISDenver’s IB Diploma Programme is tailored to meet the needs of globally minded students. With small class sizes, passionate teachers, and a strong emphasis on student agency, learners are encouraged to explore their interests and apply their bilingual skills to deepen their global perspectives.

At our new high school, students of all language backgrounds will find exciting opportunities to grow as global communicators. Those with no prior experience can begin their journey by learning Spanish or French, while students with intermediate proficiency may qualify to earn the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy through the state of Colorado. For those pursuing the highest levels of language mastery, our curriculum offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Bilingual Diploma in Spanish, French, or Chinese, an exceptional credential that reflects advanced fluency and intercultural competence.

Learning extends far beyond the classroom walls. Science and PE classes take place in nearby parks, guest speakers from the ISDenver community enrich discussions, and partnerships with local businesses open doors to real-world experiences and future internships.

Combined with the rigor and global recognition of the IB Diploma Programme, which already distinguishes students in the university admissions process, our graduates are exceptionally well-prepared for a wide range of options at top-tier universities around the world.

Milestones and moments that matter

In just the first few weeks, students have:

  • Designed their founding class lounge
  • Launched a Global Issues Club and a Ski/Snowboard Club (both student-led)
  • Contributed to the creation of the school library
  • Enrolled in a unique “Colorado Lifestyles” class that celebrates local culture and outdoor living
  • Soaked in the positive school culture lifelong friendships and fun

“What’s impressed me most is the students’ initiative. They’re not waiting to be told what to do. They’re leading, creating, and building something meaningful.”

-Katie Williams, ISDenver High School Director

Clubs, athletics, and community

Extracurriculars are already in motion, with students exploring athletics, arts, and leadership opportunities. The school’s flexible structure allows students to propose new clubs and traditions, many of which are already underway thanks to their enthusiasm and creativity.

Already in our first season of athletics, our teams are proving to be competitive, setting the stage for a dynamic and ambitious athletic program where students will have the opportunity to play, grow, and excel. With a strong foundation and a spirit of determination, our sports program is poised to become a cornerstone of student life and school pride.

Learning through experience: Global travel begins

Dani Robb, Director of Auxiliary Services and Global Travel, is spearheading experiential learning trips that align directly with the IB curriculum:

  • Grade 9: A journey to Washington, D.C. and New York City, where students explore civic engagement, social justice, and literature through immersive experiences like museum visits, historic tours, and a Broadway performance.

  • Grade 10 (planned): Geneva, Switzerland, a global hub for diplomacy and human rights. Students will engage with international organizations and connect classroom learning to real-world global issues.

“These trips are more than travel,” says Robb. “They’re extensions of the classroom, designed to build empathy, intercultural understanding, and global awareness.”

Voices of the Founding Class

The students themselves are the heartbeat of this new chapter:

  • “I’m excited to help design classroom spaces and plan school activities and to make the school of my dreams.” - Lyla, Founding Class Member
  • “It feels special to be part of something new from the very beginning. We’ll get to start clubs and traditions that could last for years.” - Emma, Founding Class Member
  • “The IB allows for so much student agency. I get to invest in the education that will set me up for success.” - Tyler, Founding Class Member

Why Founding Class families chose ISDenver

Founding families cite a range of reasons for choosing ISDenver High School, from academic challenge and bilingual IB opportunities to the school’s nurturing environment and commitment to whole-child development.

  • “We wanted her to be academically challenged and not lost in the mix. ISDenver offers rigor, balance, and a chance to grow as a leader.”
  • “The support and feel of the school comforted me. I felt they would truly see and support my child.”

With a strong start, a visionary team, and a passionate group of students and families, ISDenver’s high school is already proving to be a vibrant, innovative space for learning and growth. As the founding class continues to shape the school’s identity, one thing is clear: the future is bright, and it’s being built right now.
