Bilingual Brilliance: How ISDenver Students Outperform National Averages Year After Year

Bilingual Brilliance: How ISDenver Students Outperform National Averages Year After Year

At ISDenver, we believe that a global, multilingual education is a catalyst to academic excellence. Our learning model blends International Baccalaureate (IB) pedagogy with true bilingual immersion in Spanish, French, or Chinese. The result is a research-aligned approach that allows students to master rigorous grade-level skills across two languages, often at levels that exceed monolingual peers.

Our latest Fall 2025 Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment data tells a remarkable story of both exceptional achievement and strong growth across Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Achievement that outpaces national norms

Across Math, Reading, and Language Usage, ISDenver students significantly outperform the average student in both public and private schools nationwide, all while learning in two languages.

  Math Reading Language Usage
Data Students in grades 3–9 scored well above national norms, with percentiles ranging from the 93rd to the 99th. Reading achievement percentiles span the 85th–99th range across the school. Scores remain consistently high, with most grades performing in the 94th–98th percentile.
What the data tells us Grade 9 stands out with achievement at the 99th percentile, reflecting exceptional high school readiness. Students demonstrate strong reading comprehension and fluency in English while simultaneously building literacy in a second language.

These results reaffirm the strength of our language program and literacy instruction across languages.

Growth that exceeds expectations

Beyond strong achievement, ISDenver students are also growing at or above projected rates in all core subjects.

  Math Reading Language Usage
Data Students meet or exceed growth expectations at every grade level.

All grade levels demonstrate strong growth.

Students in Grades 4–9 show steady, consistent growth.
Growth standouts Growth is strong across Grades 3–9, even as students maintain achievement in the 93rd–99th percentiles. Grade 2 is a standout: 95% of students met their reading growth target, highlighting the power of early bilingual literacy development. Between 56% and 71% of students met or exceeded growth projections.

What we’re celebrating in the data

  • High achievement + high growth: Students are not only performing above national norms, they are continuing to improve faster than peers across the country.
  • Early grades show exceptional momentum: Grades 2 and 3 demonstrate particularly strong growth, reflecting the strength of early immersion and aligned curriculum pathways.
  • High school readiness is undeniable: Grade 9 results are incredible. Math at the 99th percentile and Reading at the 98th underscore the academic preparedness of students entering the upper school experience.

“Our data reaffirms what we see in classrooms every day: bilingual learners thrive academically not despite learning in two languages, but because of it. Engaging with challenging content through multiple languages builds cognitive flexibility, stronger problem-solving, and a resilience that propels students beyond national benchmarks.”
—Marzia Mauffrey, Assistant Director of Academics

At ISDenver, students don’t simply meet expectations. They exceed them. In every language. The MAP results from Fall 2025 reinforce a powerful truth: bilingual immersion works. ISDenver students are not only mastering grade-level content in two languages, they’re excelling on national measures of achievement and surpassing growth expectations year after year.

At ISDenver, multilingualism is more than an academic approach. It is a pathway to higher-level thinking, global citizenship, and sustained academic success.
