Cérémonie d'Ouverture ushers in new academic year; 8th grade honoree gives opening address
The Opening Ceremonies August 21 officially launched us into the 2024-2025 academic year. This annual gathering is a celebration of community. After summer holiday, the energy is excited and hopeful as we gather together as families, students, faculty, and staff. The focal point of this community celebration is remarks from the 8th Grade Head of School Award Recipient.
Every year, Middle School faculty nominate a rising eighth grader for the Head of School Award. The Head of School Award is awarded to a student who embodies academic excellence, global mindedness, and our community principles of respecting self, treating others with dignity, being principled and open-minded, and positively contributing to our community. This year’s award winner, Bryan Wabo, evoked the “same spirit of hope and unity that we witnessed during this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris. We gather in Denver, Colorado, this morning but each of us hailing from every part of the globe, with so many cultures and spoken languages between us, but with a shared vision to create a more compassionate and curious world.”
Bryan used his opportunity to talk to fellow students about leadership,
As we step into kindergarten, 5th grade, or even 8th grade, we take on leadership roles, setting positive examples for our peers and younger students. True leadership isn't just about taking charge; it's about inspiring and uplifting others, encouraging an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. Being a good teammate is equally important, as is collaboration and support. Together, these skills not only enhance our personal growth but also strengthen the bonds that make our school a supportive and dynamic place to learn and thrive.
This year, let's aim high, engage in the community, build character, and be courageous. Let’s challenge ourselves academically, push our limits in sports, and be curious by getting involved in activities that ignite our passions. Let's be compassionate, support each other, and celebrate each other's successes, big or small…
Bryan led his 8th-grade peers in the time-honored tradition of the ringing of the bell. This year’s Cérémonie d'Ouverture included the inaugural performance of the Dragon Chorale. The Chorale is composed of students, faculty and staff. They were directed by Dr. Juliana Stoughton and Janice Yenter.
Bryan is such a fantastic leader because he leads by example, and does his talking through his actions. He displays great integrity, open-mindedness and balance. Lately, I’ve had the privilege of seeing Bryan as a leader in music class. He’s a fine guitarist, and has taken on the role of helping other students who are new to the instrument. When I send the guitarists to go work on their parts without me, I know I can count on Bryan to help the group stay together and to problem solve if needed.

Bryan is exploring his options for High School. "I'm thinking of going to Valor Christian High School. Based on my research it's a great high school when it comes to academics, sports and the Christian faith."
Congratulations to Bryan on this honor!
