Introducing Our Next Head of School, Roberto d'Erizans
The International School of Denver excited to announce that Dr. Roberto d’Erizans has been unanimously appointed as the next Head of School, following a special meeting of the Search Committee and the Board of Directors. Dr. d’Erizans will begin his tenure on July 1, 2025.
Board Chair Kurt Pletcher noted, “I could not imagine a better educator, or person, to lead our next chapter. Just as I heard from many of you, I am so impressed by Roberto’s background, talent, and alignment with our strategic plan. It’s exciting to think about our school’s future and how we’re uniquely poised to develop bilingual, global citizens who make positive contributions to the world around them.”
From the onset of our Head of School search, the Search Committee and Board of Directors remained focused on identifying a leader who is not only mission- and vision-driven, but also deeply aligned with our values. As Assistant Head of School and Upper Primary Director Marzia Mauffrey shared,
“Roberto embodies the qualities of a truly exceptional leader who is deeply aligned with ISDenver's values, vision, and mission. His open-mindedness, coupled with a broad vision that goes beyond biliteracy to embrace the school’s entire academic framework, reflects his ability to lead ISDenver toward continued growth and success.” -Marzia Mauffrey, Assistant Head of School for Academics
Throughout the search process, feedback from ISDenver academic leaders, faculty and staff, and language program heads–each of whom are members of the search committee–to parents,, was overwhelmingly positive. Across campus interactions, Roberto’s engagement, humility, curiosity, and clear passion for ISDenver shone through. “Roberto brings deep immersion, international school, IB-centered, and independent school experience resulting in a deep commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging,” said Director of Faculty Support and Head of English, Jenny Nealon.
Raised in Caracas, Venezuela, and having worked abroad in London and São Paulo, he is fluent in Spanish and English, with conversational Portuguese skills. A self-described teacher at heart, Roberto’s collaborative and distributed leadership style fosters a positive and inclusive school culture. Roberto’s professional and academic background is equally impressive. He’s currently serving as the Head of School and Executive Director of The Millennium School and Millennium Forum in San Francisco, CA. His educational journey began in 2002 at Colorado’s Eagle Rock School; he has also taught and held leadership positions at The Taft School, Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy, The American School of London, and Graded-The American School in São Paolo, Brazil.
A lifelong learner, Roberto earned his B.A. in Spanish and Sociology from Wofford College, his M.A. in Spanish from Middlebury College, and his Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership from Northeastern University. He has also earned a Certificate in International School Leadership from the Principals’ Training Center. Roberto remains active with the broader education community, serving as a board member for the California Association of Independent Schools and as a trustee for the Katherine Delmar Burke School.
Above all, Roberto sees in ISDenver a community he is excited to join. He shared his enthusiasm for making ISDenver his long-term home, drawn to our vision, commitment to language immersion, and culture of belonging. In his own words: “I am driven by a belief in the transformative power of education to shape individuals and communities. At the heart of my approach is a belief in the holistic development of every student. It is about fostering a sense of curiosity, resilience, and empathy that transcends the boundaries of the classroom and prepares students to navigate the complexities of their worlds with courage and compassion. I could feel that in ISDenver.”
