ISDenver 5th Graders Explore France
Fifth graders in our French program journeyed to France for an immersive ten-day experience.
A linguistic and cultural trip to France
Our linguistic and cultural trip program to France is an integral part of the IB curriculum, designed to provide equitable opportunities for students to learn and recreate in diverse environments through a wide range of activities. We aim to take students beyond their comfort zones, offering challenges that promote mastery of new skills and encourage personal growth—experiences they may not encounter within the traditional school setting.
By integrating the trip experiences into our units of inquiry, we reinforce and extend the values of the IB curriculum, encouraging students to reflect on and transfer their learning back into their lives at home, in school, and within the broader global context. Through these trips, we inspire future stewards of the outdoors and nurture life-long global learners who embody the IB's commitment to intercultural understanding and global engagement.
Our itinerary
- Brest, Brittany: Enjoying time with our sister school and exploring
- Paris: Touring the the capital city with a guide, we took in iconic monuments (like the Tour Eiffel, Versailles, Grand Rex) and renowned museums such as Musée d'Orsay, Musée de Cluny. Students dined in typical Parisian restaurants.
After many years leading this trip with colleagues, I get to witness firsthand time and again how truly transformative this trip is. I see the amount of personal growth students experience, as they spend over five days immersed in a foreign country, away from home. They return more mature, with a richer and more profound understanding of both the language and the culture.
I am so proud of our students for being risk takers, staying fully engaged in any activity and use their French target language seamlessly to deepen their understanding of the history and the culture. They were consistently reflecting and being grateful for all the various moments spent in France.

Middle School Assistant Director and Dean of Students, Hope Forgey, and Educational Technology Specialist, Steven Lamb, are thought leaders in this space and help educators explore this complex issue and consider strategies for integrating technology with purpose and impact.
