ISDenver Campus Reverberates Call for Peace during Annual International Day of Peace Ceremony
Every September, the entire student body at the International School of Denver gathers together in observance of the International Day of Peace. This year ISDenver observed the International Day of Peace on Friday, September 20th, with a variety of activities including:
- Planting Pinwheels for Peace created by every student from K1 - Grade 8,
- A new Peace Pole painted with our Dragon House colors of red, yellow, green, and blue, and with words showing how we will show ways to cultivate peace (the 2024 theme). The words painted on the Peace Pole are: Kindness & Connecting, Caring & Valuing, Respect & Appreciating, and Love & Gratitude.
- ECE and Grade 1 learners sang the song “Light a Candle for Peace” conducted by Ms. Tracy and Ms. Paloma.
- The Grade 4 and Grade 5 students, and our MS Music teacher, Ms. Natalie, on trombone, led all students, teachers and staff with our new ISDenver School Song, written and conducted by Juliana Stoughton.
- Head of School, Bob Carignan, shared remarks about International Day of Peace.
Our ISDenver School Community gathered in a circle around the Peace Pole and waved our pinwheels during this celebration of Peace!
Sharing Peace with the World
- New this year, we reached out to our neighbor school, Stanley British Primary School, to share an Action for Peace idea. Students created pinwheels for peace and together we planted the pinwheels to create a giant peace sign on their south hill facing ISDenver.
- In our Middle School Community Art Xblock class, students created a variety of peace-themed art which was displayed throughout the MLE building, and shared with others on campus.
- Grade 5 students will be bringing tabletop-sized peace pole gifts to the three countries they are visiting (France, Spain, and Taiwan) on their October trips.
- The Visual Arts Team will be presenting about this event at the annual Colorado Art Educators Association fall conference in November.
