ISDenver’s Marzia Mauffrey Featured by The Principals’ Training Center and The International Educator

The International School of Denver is proud to celebrate Assistant Head of Academics and Director of Upper Primary, Marzia Mauffrey, who was recently featured by the Principals’ Training Center (PTC) and its sister organization, The International Educator (TIE), two of the most respected institutions serving international schools worldwide.

TIE and the PTC operate under the Overseas Schools Assistance Corporation (OSAC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening global education. Through its publications and recruitment network, TIE connects exceptional educators with leading international schools, while also sharing ideas, research, and practices that elevate teaching and learning across continents. For more than 30 years, the PTC has brought together international school leaders, teachers, counselors, and governance members for world‑class, research‑driven professional learning designed specifically for the international school context.

As part of the PTC’s recurring series, “Pearls of Wisdom,” Marzia was invited to contribute a reflection to help spark connection, insight, dedicated to their mission of “ever more and better learning for our children.”

In her piece, Marzia explores a powerful idea: curriculum becomes meaningful not because it is written, but because it is lived. Drawing on her upbringing in a small Alpine village and a formative childhood journey abroad, she illustrates how learning is shaped as deeply by culture, relationships, and community as it is by standards or documentation.

Using the metaphor of bread‑making, Marzia reflects on the interplay between structure and creativity. A curriculum may offer a recipe, she notes, but its true value emerges only when educators adapt it with care, shaped by the needs, identities, and experiences of their students and families. In an era of rapid change, especially with the rise of artificial intelligence, she reminds us that human qualities such as connection, empathy, and curiosity remain irreplaceable.

“The most legitimate curriculum is not just what we plan. It’s what we co‑create every day with our community.”

-Marzia Mauufrey

Her contribution is a meaningful recognition of the expertise, reflection, and leadership that define ISDenver’s educators. It also places Marzia among a global network of practitioners shaping the future of international education, one thoughtful insight, one shared story, and one co‑created learning experience at a time.
