Lower Primary Joins the World Kindness Movement
Lower Primary students joined an international celebration of kindness in November. World Kindness Day is celebrated across the globe annually on November 13. This international observance was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, a coalition of nations' kindness NGOs.
World Kindness Day reminds us of the power kindness has to create a culture of compassion and generosity, and the lasting impact it can have on individuals and communities. The day encourages kindness toward ourselves, each other, and the world around us.
To honor World Kindness Day and promote kindness in our school, Lower Primary School dedicated an entire week to celebrations of kindness, including:
-
A special morning announcement was shared each day to inspire students’ thinking and actions around kindness.
-
Each student received a Kindness Week packet with a collection of coloring pages, writing prompts, games, and activities that highlight kindness and encourage students to practice it.
-
Every class in Lower Primary created a “chain of kindness”, with each link representing a student’s act of kindness.
In our morning assembly on World Kindness Day, we connected all the classes’ chains to create one long chain of kindness that can stretch around our building. This chain reminds us that kindness inspires more kindness - and when all our little acts of kindness come together, they can make a BIG impact as we watch kindness grow and spread throughout our school. We hope families will join us in continuing conversations and reinforcing messages about kindness at home.
