Meet Benjamin Moore—our new Camp Director and lifelong believer in the power of summer camp to transform lives.

Meet Benjamin Moore—our new Camp Director and lifelong believer in the power of summer camp to transform lives.

Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Benjamin Moore’s passion for youth development began at age 7 when he first stepped onto the grounds of YMCA Camp Ocoee. What started as a childhood adventure quickly grew into a lifelong calling—Benjamin returned to that camp for 12 summers, progressing from camper to counselor and ultimately discovering his purpose as a leader.

Six years ago, Benjamin moved to Denver—what he calls a “happy accident”—to work at Dream Big Day Camp. It was supposed to be a three-month stint. Instead, he found a new home, new community, and new opportunities to grow. Since then, he’s made a name for himself as a driven and compassionate coach and program leader, taking on roles like Basketball Program Director, JV Head Coach at Evergreen High School, and Assistant Camp Director at YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake.

This year, he brings that same drive, heart, and vision to ISDenver.

So why ISDenver? Benjamin says it was love at first sight. Drawn by the school’s commitment to belonging, joy, community, and celebration of difference, he saw a rare opportunity to lead in a space that aligns with his values. From his first conversation with former Camp Director Dani Robb to the warm welcome he received from his colleagues A’Jon, Hope, and Nick, Benjamin knew he’d found something special.

It feels as though I’ve always been part of ISDenver.

Just a few weeks into his first summer at ISDenver, and Benjamin is already thinking big about the future of ISDenver Summer Programs. He’s exploring ways to expand early childhood offerings and envisions high-level athletic summer programs as part of the school’s growing high school campus. His ultimate goal? To create a place where campers return year after year, grow into leaders, and find the same sense of belonging he experienced as a kid.

At the heart of it all is Benjamin’s philosophy: lead with love. Whether it’s saying hello at morning drop-off, checking in with staff, or celebrating each camper’s story, he’s building a culture where everyone feels valued, seen, and celebrated.

We sat down with Benjamin to hear more how he creates meaning in the camp experience, his philosophy, favorite camp memory, and advice for campers.

Creating Meaningful and Enriching Experiences

Benjamin approaches every camp season with a clear focus: creating an environment where both campers and staff feel empowered and inspired. For campers, that means balancing fun and exploration with opportunities to grow, create, and collaborate. “When kids feel seen, safe, and valued, meaningful experiences naturally follow,” Benjamin explains.

For staff, he’s committed to fostering a culture of trust and appreciation. Through thoughtful onboarding, regular check-ins, and a spirit of shared ownership, Benjamin ensures that every team member feels supported and celebrated. “It’s the culture we create—one rooted in respect, joy, and purpose—that makes the experience meaningful for everyone involved.”

Philosophy and Purpose

Benjamin leads with a simple but powerful principle: love first. “When kids and staff feel valued, everything else flows from that,” he says. Through shared stories, cultural celebrations, and daily affirmations, he builds an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome to be themselves—and encouraged to grow.

As for his definition of a great summer camp experience? “It’s a space where people from all walks of life come together, learn from each other, and discover who they are. It’s life-changing.”

Advice to Campers

“Allow camp to be the place where you learn to create the person you want to be,” Benjamin advises. “Have fun, make friends, stay present, and most of all—learn who you are. You’ll never regret it.”

Favorite Camp Memory? Buckle Up.

Benjamin recalls a story that sounds straight out of a movie—his last summer at Camp Ocoee, helping a camper with archery when she pointed out a bear nearby. What followed was a 45-minute “Batman” chase (that’s code for bear) through the woods with his camp director. “That bear wanted nothing to do with us, thank goodness—but I’ll never forget it,” Benjamin laughs. “And yes, that story is 100% true and 0% embellished.”

Three Words to Describe This Summer at ISDenver? So. Much. Fun.

We’re thrilled to have Benjamin Moore on board—and we can’t wait for the incredible summer ahead.
