August 6: Community

Hi All,

As each August rolls around, it never ceases to amaze me how lonely a school is without you and your children. Quiet, calm, empty; not what I would ever sign up for. I can’t help but reflect on what community means in my life and in the life of a successful school. Thank you in advance for showing up later this month, the doors will be open and we will excitedly welcome everyone back!

As always, the PTO deserves a great deal of thanks for being the engine house of our school community. They are working with my team to plan community events and gatherings to bring us all together. We look forward to mingling with everyone on our extended drop-off coffee on the first day of school. They are also planning events throughout the year that will help us all celebrate what is special about ISDenver.

We are also using the annual community survey data to improve our all-school events, creating fun-filled gatherings that embrace who we are now and where we came from. These events will be ever evolving as we incorporate the input from our new and returning parents and they will reflect the current multicultural community as best we can.

We have been working on how to strengthen our school - home partnership including our communications - always a work in process that we will make better every year. Throughout the fall we will be updating you on our policies and unveiling a new Parent and Student Handbook. We will better articulate how we work together and focus on doing the most important work possible, developing learners who are inter-culturally adept and inspired  to make positive contributions in a complex world. Our learners will always come first.

Community isn’t just about who we are or how we engage with each other - it’s also about shared values. This year, we will be opening up more opportunities through coffees and minglings to answer questions on our vision and the opportunities in our future. These will include both enhancements and additions to our facilities (super exciting) and ensuring that our academics are world class by any measure across four languages and cultures - we will be the best school academically, anywhere, period.

This is an “us” undertaking: not you, not me, but a community. As I promised when I spoke to you all for the first time last year, when your children  are here I will treat them like my own, I will do everything in my power to ensure they get the best educational experience possible, and every year will be better than the last. We have an amazing faculty, a growing and strengthening partnership, and nothing but optimism in our sails set wing to wing.

I can’t wait to see you!

Bob

It’s time to get back to who. we. are.  As we’ve evolved, we inevitably became everything to everyone. First and foremost, we will maintain our crystal focus on language and culture -- two of the pillars of global citizenship.

Our students are fluent in an immersion language and are strong researchers, mathematicians, problem solvers, collaborators, and inquirers who leave us ready to thrive in their next steps. That is what we want for our global learners: students who are inter-culturally adept and will make positive contributions in a complex world. That is our mission; that is who we are, and who we will be.

Looking Forward to the Future, Which Means Fond Farewells

As with every year, not everyone will be returning to experience our plans for the future. While we are always sad to say goodbye, we choose to focus on celebrating upcoming adventures and are eagerly looking to the future for all involved.

Important Updates on Safety and Academics

ISDenver completed an audit earlier this year with the industry leader in school safety. While we received high scores for what we are already doing (noted for being among the most secure campuses), we are also working to improve our safety and are committed to doing so – period.
